Roque Santa Cruz has returned to Blackburn Rovers for the remainder of the season

Blackburn Rovers have concluded the signing of their ex- striker Roque Santa Cruz from Manchester City.

The 29-year-old Paraguayan had a medical at Ewood Park today and resolved all details of his loan move until the end of the season.

“I feel like I am coming home – this has been the easiest decision of my career,” he told Blackburn’s website.

Santa Cruz, who performed for Rovers from 2007-09, could feature in their next Premier League match at Chelsea tomorrow.

He scored 29 goals in 70 games in his initial period at Ewood Park after a high profile transfer from Bayern Munich.

His talent and performances at Rovers convinced money-bags Manchester City to invest £17.5m in him in July 2009. But during that time he’s started just six League games for the blues.

Steve Kean, Blackburn manager since December, disclosed his pleasure at making Santa Cruz his first new face of the January window.

“Roque feels like he’s got some business to finish from the first time he was here,” he said.

“He had a fantastic spell here and he showed his quality. Hopefully he’ll do that again until the end of the season.

“It’s massive from his point of view because he doesn’t have to settle in at a new club. He’s coming back to a place that was special to him and I’m sure he’s going to deliver.”

Remarking on the prospect of a permanent deal, Kean said: “We’re trying to speak to Manchester City at the moment regarding an option about signing Roque at the end of the season, so we don’t know about that yet.

“It’s something we’ll ask for, but we don’t know if they’ll commit to it.”

Santa Cruz has not been in first team plans at City of Manchester Stadium this season, making just two appearances. He is currently behind Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli and Emmanuel Adebayor in the pecking order.

With the recent acquisition of £27m Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko earlier this week, it seems clear that chances at City are diminishing rapidly for the Paraguayan.

Santa Cruz added: “I want to get playing and scoring goals again and this is a real chance for me to prove myself after a frustrating period.

“Everyone knows what Blackburn Rovers means to me.”

Few at Ewood Park would be betting against a permanent return to the Blackburn system.
