Beckham trains with Tottenham, but will he play for them?
Harry Redknapp has confirmed David Beckham won’t confront his previous team Manchester United even if he does sign for Spurs this week.
Beckham is now training with Tottenham as the Premier League title hopefuls attempt to sign the midfielder on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy.
Spurs want the 35-year-old on a short-term agreement, but as things stand, Beckham will only be with the team to train until February 10, with Los Angeles reported to be anxious over insurance challenges should their midfielder experience another injury like he did when on loan at AC Milan prior to the World Cup.
An agreement could eventually be arrived at later this week before frontrunners United’s trip to White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Even so, Redknapp confesses Beckham’s conditioning just isn’t yet up to scratch and that he won’t select the ex-England captain to encounter his previous club.
“Manchester United this Sunday would be a non-starter even if he does sign,” said Redknapp in The Sun.
“He is not fit to play yet and he knows that. It’s going to take him a few weeks to get back to anywhere near the fitness levels he’s used to.”
Beckham has fitted into training effortlessly with the Spurs squad and Redknapp is eager to have the player’s experience at his fingertips.
He added: “You cannot beat experience and David has it in bucket loads.
“No matter how well you are playing, when you are going into the second half of the season and have Champions League football as well as the Premier League, it’s what you need.”
