Everton in Adam Johnson loan link

Everton are plotting a deal to take Manchester City and England winger Adam Johnson on a season-long loan.

There is a whisper on the football grapevine that Adam Johnson could be heading out on loan this season as he is tired of warming the Manchester City bench.

Everton target England winger

The prospect of Everton making a loan move for Adam Johnson makes a lot of sense for the Merseyside club but allowing the England winger to leave would be one of Roberto Mancini’s more bizarre decisions.

Now if rumours are true Johnson is on his way to another club, with reports that Sunderland could also provide a loan deal, where as Chelsea want him on a permanent deal and offer Champions League football.

The Goodison Park club have yet to make any moves in the transfer market this summer but David Moyes is reportedly preparing a loan move for Johnson.

Undoubtedly, Moyes would be able to offer Johnson the regular starts that he is far from guaranteed at the Etihad Stadium.

The Toffee’s have no money to spend though, so Adam Johnson could prove to be a really good loan signing. Everton boss David Moyes apparently feels he needs a new left winger and Johnson would fit the bill perfectly.

The only drawback would probably be Johnson’s wage demands. Everton have a very strict wage budget and Johnson is on quite big wages.

Everton would be a good option for Johnson though. He probably wouldn’t have to move house and Everton are likely to be looking to challenge for the European places next season.

In reality, Johnson started 15 Premier League games last season, coming off the bench in 16, which is only one appearance short of James Milner and 14 more than Mario Balotelli.

The former Middlesbrough man has fallen behind Spain star David Silva in the pecking order at City and, with Euro 2012 on the horizon, it is thought he would be keen on such a move.

The England winger is talented and should really be playing regular first team football. Last season was a waste of his talent with Johnson sitting on the bench for much of the campaign. Next season could be the same.

If Johnson doesn’t get regular first team football next season then his career could just stagnate. It would be a shame for him not to fulfil the immense potential he has.
