Samuel Eto’o will today become the highest-paid player in world football after agreeing a staggering three-year deal worth £350,000 per week to join Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.
The prolonged negotiations between Inter Milan and Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala over the transfer of Samuel Eto’o finally came to an end on Tuesday, August 23.

Both clubs reached a final agreement on the transfer fee for the player, amounting to €22 million.
Eto’o himself will bag €20 million annually for a three-year period. Following the successful negotiation, Eto’o will undergo a medical examination this Wednesday, August 24, in Rome.
Other clauses were agreed upon. For instance, if Eto’o scores 15 goals in the season, Inter gets an additional €5 million. The club will receive €10 million if the Cameroonian striker is able to net 30 goals in the season. This apart, Inter stands to benefit with an extra €5 million if the striker is able to help the club qualify for the very lucrative European Champions League.
Anzhi are owned by billionaire oil tycoon Suleiman Kerimov who has sanctioned the mammoth wage deal that will see Eto’o surge past the rest of the world’s top earners on the football rich list.
Inter Milan’s Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder picks up £250,000 per week while Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo pockets £210,000.
Manchester City reportedly pay £38m signing Sergio Aguero £200,000 per week, a similar figure to team-mate Yaya Toure.
Lionel Messi – widely acknowledged as the world’s best player – reportedly earns about half of what Eto’o will rake in as the Argentine is on a modest £180,000 per week at Barcelona.
Kerimov, who has a fortune of around £5billion, bought Anzhi in January and is determined to turn them into the top club in Russia.
Ex-Hearts boss Eduard Malofeev managed Anzhi in the 90s and to date their only foray in Europe came in the 2001 UEFA Cup when they lost 1-0 to Rangers.
Inter are now on the lookout for Eto’o replacement and are favourites to bring in the 32-year-old Diego Forlan. French giants Paris Saint-Germain have been also linked with a swoop for the Uruguay international and could afford his reported €12million (£10.5m) asking price.
Reports in France suggest PSG will continue to wait in the wings if Forlan is unable to agree a deal with Inter, but are also monitoring current Nerazzurri striker Diego Milito.
PSG had identified Milito as an option to improve their attack, but the Argentine wants to stay at the Giuseppe Meazza ahead of the imminent departure of Eto’o.
